Department of commerce is in action since the establishment of the college since 1972. In fact, the college was established to offer vocational education. Therefore, today the department offers courses in insurance, marketing and management of retail business, human resource management, entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprise, material management, along with B.com (H). Each course has strength of 77 students. The department also contributes to the successful running of the courses BBE, office management and tourism
These courses are taught by experienced faculty consisting of 6 associate professors and 26 assistant professors (8 permanent plus 18ad-hoc). Our professors have published work to their credit in the form of widely read books and research papers. There are 68 publications so far. Innovation projects sponsored by UGC have also been undertaken.

The societies keep the faculty and students in contact with the industry and society. The Department hopes to start BMS course very soon. It plans to organize conferences and workshops on recent trends in investment and vocational education and industry.
हिन्दी विभाग: एक परिचय
कॉलेज ऑफ़ वोकेशनल स्टडीज़ और उसका हिन्दी विभाग, दोनों एक साथ सन् 1972 में स्थापित हुए। एक समय विभाग के शिक्षक-सदस्य चौदह थे। इनमें डॉ. रमेश उपाध्याय और डॉ. प्रेम जनमेजय जैसे ख्यातिलब्ध हिन्दी-लेखक भी शामिल रहे। इस समय विभाग में एसोसिएट प्रोफ़ेसर पद पर चार स्थायी और असिस्टैंट प्रोफ़ेसर पद पर आठ तदर्थ शिक्षक कार्यरत हैं। स्थायी शिक्षकों में एक ओर डॉ. उषा शर्मा जैसी अनुभवी शिक्षक हैं तो दूसरी ओर डॉ. हरजेन्द्र चौधरी, डॉ. रत्नावली कौशिक और डॉ. विनय कुमार जैन (लेखकीय नाम: विनय विश्वास) जैसे हिन्दी साहित्य में सक्रिय रचनाकार शिक्षक हैं।
हिन्दी विभाग शैक्षिक और शिक्षणेतर गतिविधियों में निरंतर सक्रिय रहनेवाला विभाग है। समय-समय अनेक संगोष्ठियाँ एवम् कार्यक्रम उसने आयोजित किए हैं। सन् 2011 में 29-30 मार्च को विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग के सहयोग से ‘कविता की प्रासंगिकता: अज्ञेय, नागार्जुन, केदार और शमशेर के संदर्भ में’ विषय पर कॉलेज में आयोजित राष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी इसका एक उदाहरण है। इसमें राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रतिष्ठित अनेक विद्वानों ने हिस्सेदारी की थी। वस्तुत: कॉलेज में बी. ए. (हिन्दी ऑनर्स) न होने पर भी विभाग उन कॉलेजों के हिन्दी विभागों से कम सक्रिय नहीं, जहाँ बी. ए. (हिन्दी ऑनर्स) मौजूद है।
हिन्दी विभाग का सपना रहा है कि कॉलेज में बी. ए. (हिन्दी ऑनर्स) पाठ्यक्रम हो। इसके लिए समय-समय पर अनेक प्रयास किए गए। नतीजा यह कि इस प्रक्रिया के अनेक चरण सफलतापूर्वक पूरे हो चुके हैं। पूरी संभावना है कि आगामी शैक्षिक सत्र से यहाँ यह पाठ्यक्रम लागू हो जाए। विभाग की योजना कॉलेज में बी. ए. हिन्दी पत्रकारिता पाठ्यक्रम शुरू कराने की भी है। नि:संदेह विभाग विविधानेक उज्ज्वल संभावनाओं से संपन्न है।
Department of OMSP
The department of Office Management and Secretarial Practice exists since the inception of the college, that is, 1972. It forms an important wing of our Vocational Stream. Inter-department teaching is undertaken in which departments such as Commerce, Economics, Hindi, Political Science, and English participate. The department has been attracting a large number of students because of the prospects of the subject as such. The total strength of students is 230 that are currently enrolled in this course being run by the department. The faculty member(s) of the Department have been engaging and guiding the students for different academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities
Department of Tourism
Department of Tourism of CVS takes pride in being the first institute imparting tourism education in India since 1972. The department is offering its undergraduate programme which is interdisciplinary and ably supported by other departments of the college viz.History,Commerce,Economics,English,Hindi and Computer Science.Apart from providing nearly 100% placement to the students the tourism department has been awarded research projects from UGC,DU and Chamber of Commerce.The tourism teacher has also written nearly 40 articles and many of them have been published in reputed international and national journals. He has also represented his country twice in United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO),Madrid.The department celebrates World Tourism day every year by organizing expert talks and cultural events.A tourism project awarded by DU was recently adjudged as "Best Innovative Idea" among 250 other projects of the university.The concerned teachers were also awarded "Teaching excellence award" from University of Delhi in 2015.
Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science was formed in 1996 and has been active since its inception. It undertakes B.Sc. (Hons) Computer Science and has given successful results over the years. The undergraduate course is under University of Delhi and is one of the most sought after courses. The faculty members of the Department of Computer Science have been actively mentoring the students for academic and extra-curricular purposes. The department along with “Encrypt”, the Computer Society of CVS has organised many events to keep the students abreast with the current technologies.
The B.A(H), Economics is a three-Year, full-time Honours Degree course to be taught over six semesters. It is a UGC sponsored course. College of vocational started this course in 1989. College has 62 Seats in this course.
The Delhi School of Economics, a Parent Department of B.A(H) Economics in Delhi University colleges is one of India’s premier institutes of higher learning which was launched in 1949 by V.K.R.V. Rao, with the support of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It grew out of a vision that a newly independent nation, which aspired to social and economic progress, needed a vibrant centre for advanced studies in the social sciences.
The course content and the reading list are yearly updated by Delhi School. Delhi school conducts paper-wise meetings at the beginning of the academic session and on the basis of teachers feedback content and reading list is revised. The Course content and the reading list of this course is at par with many of the best universities in the world.
Admissions in course are based on merit list. This course has a very high demand. For the last five year, admissions for the general category are closed at 90% and above. Most students are going for higher studies in India and abroad after graduation.
An updated CBCS syllabus has been implemented from the academic year 2015-16.
B.A (H) (Business Economics)
The B.A. (Hons.) Business Economics is a three-year, full-time Honours Degree Course, to be taught over six semesters. It is run under the self- financing scheme of the university.
The three year full-time degree program in Business Economics is designed to meet the growing need for an analytical and quantitative approach to problem solving in the changing corporate world by the application of the latest techniques evolved in the fields of Economics and Business.
The Department of Applied Social sciences, South Campus, University of Delhi has introduced, with effect from 1995-96, an under-graduate Honours Course in Business Economics in selected colleges of the University of Delhi. The College of Vocational Studies is amongst the first college to adopt this course. An updated CBCS syllabus has been implemented from the academic year 2015-16.
Admission in this course is based on entrance examination conducted by the University of Delhi. College of Vocational studies has at present 62 Seats in this course.
Since the inception of the College the Department of English has always been in the forefront of committed teaching, academic research and in guidance and mentoring of students. Currently we have 7 Associate Professors and 4 Assistant Professors in the department.
Faculty are involved in a wide range of academic activities; research and publication, translations ( from Bengali, Hindi, Kashmiri and Italian), and textbook/workbook writing (often in collaboration with the University of Delhi).
English Honours, introduced in the College (2013-15) was hugely successful and students did extremely well in the examinations. Following post-FYUP restructuring, it is being re-introduced from the academic year 2017-18.
Department of Political Science
Department of Political Science was introduced in 1972 with one teacher from the date of inception of college. It was expanded in the year 1989 with two permanent teachers.
Apart from teaching political science in lieu of Modern Indian Language to students of various B.A Vocational Courses, Department of Political Science also teaches Interdisciplinary Course to students of B.A (Vocational) Office Management & Secretarial Practice. It also offers Interdisciplinary courses to students of B.A Economics and History Honours. Department of Political Science offers Generic Elective Course to students of all other Honours Courses in the Choice Based Credit System which was introduced in college w.e.f July 2015.
Currently Political Science department has 1 permanent Associate Professor and 1 ad- hoc Assistant Professor. Both the faculty member are Ph.D in Political Science from University of Delhi.
Department of Physical Education
The healthy mind rests in healthy body.Keeping in mind this mantra, Departmental of Physical Education at the College works towards health and fitness of the students.The College encourages all students to participate in various games & sports.The facilities are provided by the College to students for varoius games i.e. Archery, Atheletics, Boxing, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Table-Tennis, Yoga etc
Department of Mathmatics
The Department of Mathematics was founded in the College when B.Com.(H) was introduced. Department started with a single teacher for teaching mathematics subsidiary papers to B.Com.(H) students along with Business Mathematics and Business Statistics papers. The department further expanded when B.A.(H) Economics was introduced in 1989. The department further expanded when in 1996 B.Sc. (H) Computer Science was introduced. An additional teacher was appointed to teach mathematics papers in department of computer science. After the revision of courses the subsidiary papers were abolished and concurrent courses were introduced in 2005. The teacher in-charge of Mathematics Department was one of the first authors to write book for the concurrent courses. With the introduction of CBCS in 2015 these concurrent courses were given the new nomenclature Generic Elective Papers to be taught in four semester
